Mark Selby dumps Ding Junhui in the semi-final – China Open 2011
Ding Junhui, who was the only Chinese player left in the tournament, has been thrown out by Mark Selby with a frame score of 6-3 in a best-of-eleven semi-final match of Bank of Beijing world snooker China Open tournament 2011 held at Beijing Students University
Gymnasium in China.
The Chinese Sensation, Ding, who impressively out-played Kurt Maflin, Seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry and Stephen Lee in his previous rounds, has fallen down in the semi-final. However the Jester from Leicester, Mark Selby, on the same note has
made an accomplishing performance to see off the likes of Tian Pengfei, Robert Milkins, Ali Carter and Ding Junhui in the first, second, third and fourth round respectively. The overall score-line between the players was 2-63, 77-20, 131-0, 76-0, 5-81, 0-132,
98-0, 79-45 and 69-9.
The Chinese dominated the first frame with a decisive break of 59 before the two-time Masters Champion Selby, stormed into the next three frames to lead by 3-1. He made classy breaks of 46, 131 and 70 in the second, third and fourth frames respectively.
However the scores were level at 3-3, as Ding also bounced back into the game and produced carving breaks of 62 and 126 in the fifth and sixth frame respectively.
The players were going neck-to-neck and it looked as if there was going to be a cut-throat competition before the World’s Number four, Selby, completely turned the tables over the Chinese local star. He won the next three frames straight to register a 6-3
win over his opponent.
Ding was given no chance in the seventh frame, as Selby wrapped it up with a superb break of 97 to lead again by 4-3. Eighth frame was a scrappy affair though Selby earlier compiled a break of 56, but that was not enough. A bout of safety play was seen afterwards
among the players but in the end it was Selby who managed to come out on top.
Ding, who was now left down by two frames with three to play, had his chances in the ninth frame, but he failed to capitalise on them, breaking down on 1 and 8 before Selby finished the matter off with a couple of quick fires, 32 and 27, to secure a place
in the final.
Mark Selby will now face 21-year-old ace, Judd Trump, in a best-of-nineteen frames final match of China Open tournament 2011. It is going to be a very interesting match between these two players, as Trump has also made it through after shrugging off the
likes of Marco Fu, Mark Davis, Peter Ebdon and Shaun Murphy in his previous round matches.
