Mark Selby intends to retain World Number one spot in 2012-13 Snooker Season
After winning the 2011 Shanghai Masters snooker tournament at the Shanghai Grand Stage in Shanghai, China, England’s Mark Selby occupied the World Number one spot and has managed to retain it so far. The Englishman will now begin his campaign in the 2012-13
Snooker Season with his first match in the 2012 Wuxi Classic with the objective to keep the top spot in the World Snooker Rankings.
The Jester from Leicester displayed a convincing performance in the previous snooker season and did not tumble down from number one rank. Despite the fact that he suffered from a neck injury in the 2012 China Open and had to pull out of the event after that
he crashed out of the 2012 World Snooker Championship in the opening round but it did not affect his ranking.
The Leicester wrote in a post on his official website, “I flew out to China on Friday for what will be about a month away from home. I’m defending the Wuxi title, although last year it was an invitational event whereas it’s now a full ranking tournament,
and after that I’ve got the Six Reds in Thailand as well as the Australian Open.”
He added, “I’ll still be going out to win every match, but as long as I can get some consistency to my game I’ll be fairly happy.”
The Englishman still has the after effects of his injury and he might face the same problem during his new season campaign but Selby said that he does not feel any pain while executing shots. However, he also fears that the problem might rise after he spends
some time at the baize.
The 29-year-old will be facing the winner of 2012 Snooker Shootout, compatriot Barry Hawkins in the opening round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic. The clash seems tough but Selby is focused on his game and is aiming to have a superb start of the new season. Mark
the Shark is already present in China preparing for his match against Hawkins with high hopes. It will be interesting to see how Selby manages to improve his performance and make a positive impact during the new snooker season.
