Mark Selby nominated for Player of the Year Award – Snooker News
World Number one, England’s Mark Selby has been a terrific performer at the baize in the recent snooker season with some classy performances in the major events. Due to his outstanding form in the season, the snooker governing body, World Snooker has nominated
him for the Fans Player of the Year Award and has asked the snooker fans across the globe to vote for their favourite potter.
Selby’s performance in the recent season has been outstanding. He began his season run with a classic win at the 2011 Wuxi Classic where he defeated Ali Carter 9-7.
His second big achievement was winning the 2011 Shanghai Masters after beating Mark Williams by the score line of 10-9. After winning the Shanghai Masters, Selby also claimed the World Number one Spot and he is still playing on the same rank. The Jester
from Leicester also clinched one Players Tour Championship (PTC) event.
The annual award night of the World Snooker will be held at the Dorchester Hotel in London on May 10, 2012 where the player most voted by the snooker fans will be awarded the Player of the Year title. The list of the nominated players include only those
potters who have either won a major ranking snooker event or an invitational tournament in their season run.
Other players who have been added in the favourites’ list include the former three-time World Snooker Championship winner and the 2012 German Masters winner, Ronnie O’Sullivan, last year winner of the award and the winner of 2011 UK Championship, Judd Trump,
the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner Stuart Bingham and the 2012 Masters snooker event winner Neil Robertson.
The list does not end here as it also includes the winner of 2011 Brazil Masters Shaun Murphy, the winner of the 2011 World Seniors Championship Darren Morgan, the 2011 Power Snooker triumphant Martin Gould, winner of the 2011 Snooker Shootout Barry Hawkins,
the 2012 Haikou World Open winner Mark Allen, winner of the 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals Stephen Lee, winner of the 2012 Welsh Open Ding Junhui and the 2012 China Open winner England’s Peter Ebdon.
The snooker governing body has asked the fans to vote for their favourite players to clinch the title. World Snooker also aims to raise charity for the Haven House Children’s Hospital during the ceremony.
