Mark Selby not happy with his form against Jamie Burnett: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
World Number one, England’s Mark Selby failed to make an appearance in the recently ended 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament but he was not able to fulfil his ambitions as he received a major blow in the initials stages of the tournament and crashed out.
He headed to Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria having the same hopes to start his new season campaign in style winning a major ranking snooker event but he faced the same fate he did in China. The Englishman was quite disappointed over his defeat at the
hands of the Scot.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Selby said, “Jamie seemed to block me out from the start. I think the fourth frame was a huge turning-point, I was 40 behind and I had a good break to get me back in and snookered Jamie to get the initiative
and he ended up hitting the yellow and fluking it into the middle pocket to go 3-1 instead of 2-2.”
The Jester from Leicester added, “A couple of times early doors I was over-hitting the white because the cloth's so quick so it was hard coming from Thailand, but I wouldn't use that as an excuse.”
The Englishman was up against Scotland’s Jamie Burnett in the opening round clash of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open. By the looks of it, the clash seemed a piece of cake for Selby comparing the experience and talent of both potters and even the Englishman
was confident that he would emerge victorious through this game.
However, the proceedings of the game did not turn out according to Selby’s expectations as the Scotsman dominated the game from the start and did not let Selby take any chance to grab a strong position in the game.
Selby did come back in the second session of the game with some tremendous game play and grabbed two straight frames but it was not enough for him to win the match. Burnett clinched the eighth frame to put an end to Selby’s quest. It will be interesting
to see if Selby can manage to improve his game-play and become more competitive in the new snooker season.
