Mark Selby ousts Mark King to face Mark Williams or Neil Robertson in final of 2011 Shanghai Masters
England’s Mark Selby played tremendously in the semi-final clash of 2011 Shanghai Masters against compatriot Mark King. The Englishman grabbed an easy victory against King, as he whitewashed
him remarkably by the scoreline of 6-0. Selby has now booked a spot in the final at Shanghai Grand Stage against Welshman Mark Williams or Australia’s Neil Robertson.
The Jester from Leicester proved his stunning snooker genius during the semi-final encounter as he stepped up against King at the green baize. Selby completely outclassed his opponent
and didn’t let him settle at the table. Some tremendous snooker shots during the match showed he definitely has the spark to claim the event title.
This is the second whitewash defeat for Mark King against Selby, as he received the same treatment from Mark the Shark in 2008 when he was beaten 5-0. Both players also played against
each other in the previous edition of Shanghai Masters in 2010 where Selby outclassed King in a one sided quarter-final match by the score line of 5-1.
Selby had a strong lead quite early in the match when he ousted King in the first four frames before the interval with some excellent knocks of 60, 49, 33, 49 and 36. At that time, King
was completely out of the game but he bounced back after the interval and clinched a superb lead in fifth frame. Unfortunately however, King snookered himself behind a yellow and Selby won the match after winning the last two frames.
While speaking to the local reporters after the match-up, Selby said, “It was a strange match. I didn't score that well but I played solid and didn't make many mistakes. Mark struggled
and didn't capitalise on his chances, otherwise it could have been a different story.”
Selby has now surged into the final match of 2011 Shanghai Masters where he will either play the Welsh Potting Machine, Mark Williams or the former World Snooker Champion, Neil Robertson.
Regardless of who he plays, Selby is ready to give his best in the match.
Speaking of the final match, Selby said, “Whether I play Mark Williams or Neil Robertson tomorrow, it's going to be a tough game. I'll just try to enjoy it and give it my best.”
The final match will commence at Shanghai Grand Stage on Saturday, September 10.
