Mark Selby comfortably outplayed Jimmy Robertson by a frame score of 10-1 in the first round of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, which is being held at the Crucible Theatre,
Sheffield, England.
The Crucible Debutant, Jimmy Robertson, could only manage escaping from a whitewash. However, the Jester from Leicester, Mark Selby, played a magnificently to register one of the most
impressive wins in the first round. The overall score-line between both players was 35-70, 90-50, 70-21, 66-20, 71-63, 68-29, 77-19, 102-36, 82-53 (82), 107-0 and 70-44.
There was nothing left for Robertson in the match, as he already started the second session trailing his opponent by 8-1. He did take the opening frame after a bout of safety play and
it looked as if it would be a confidence-booster for him, but it turned into an opposite story when the twenty-seven-year-old, Selby, turned the tables over his head.
The two-time Masters Champion, Selby, dominated all of the following frames in the first session to put himself in the driving seat and on resuming the game today in the second period,
he didn’t take much time to kill the match.
The current world number three, Selby, was not able to produce the best of his game in the opening session, as he only made one reasonable break of 72 in the last frame. However, in today’s
match he was back on the track, as he dominated the first frame with the match-highest mind-boggling century break of 107 to leave his opponent down by one eight frames with nine to play, 9-1.
In the second frame of today’s session first chance again fell for Selby, but he failed to clinch the match, as he only racked up a break of 49. However, he was lucky to get back on the
table, as he didn’t leave his opponent with a frame-winning chance. There was a bout of safety play seen among the players afterwards before the Selby finished the matter off by hitting a few quick fires.
Mark Selby is to play in a potential clash with the seven-time world champion, Stephen Hendry, in the next round.
