Mark Selby set for Barry Hawkins in first round of 2012 World Snooker Championship
Line up of the first round of 2012 World Snooker Championship is all set and the competition is just ready to begin. The snooker fans around the world are expecting thrilling moments at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield as the fixtures of the initial round
are not at all some easy matches but some of the most exciting openers which will definitely bring fireworks to the arena.
Current World Number one, England’s Mark Selby, who is also being considered one of the toughest challengers and one of the contenders to clinch the world title, has been drawn against the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner, compatriot Barry Hawkins in the initial
round. The match-up is going to be a tough one as both potters are in full swing and have the ability to unnerve their opponents.
The Jester from Leicester, Selby has been a superb performer in the recent season and has clinched a couple of major titles during his season campaign. He began the season with a tremendous victory over Ali Carter by the score line of 9-7 in the final encounter
of the 2011 Wuxi Classic. Winning the 2011 Shanghai Masters after ousting the former two-time World Snooker Champion from Wales, Mark Williams took him on the top podium place of World Snooker Rankings.
Meanwhile, his performance in other major and minor ranking events was also impressive as he retained his number one spot. The Leicester potter believes that his match against Hawkins will be quite interesting because the Hawk is in good shape and can be
tough enough to break him during the clash.
While speaking to the media, Selby said, “It's a tough draw, Barry is a good player who has been there before. But, in all honesty, with the injury problems I've been having, I wasn't bothered who I got, I'd be happy just to be playing.”
Selby received a neck injury and was suffering from severe pain so he had to pull out of the 2012 China Open. However, withdrawing from the Chinese event did not affect his form and his ranks. The Englishman is now feeling well and is hopeful for a better
outcome.
