Mark Selby vs Judd Trump: Bank of Beijing China Open 2011 – Final Preview
The Jester from Leicester Mark Selby, and Judd Trump, also known as Judd Triumph, will battle for the title in the final of the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011 on Sunday, the 3rd of April.
Outstanding performances from both cuemen finally paid off as they surged into the all-England title match. Selby defeated last-time runner-up Ding Junhui, while the Ace Judd Trump trashed the former world champion Shaun Murphy in their respective semi-final
clashes.
Selby clinched a three-frame victory over the home favourite Ding Junhui at 6-3 in the best-of-11 frames match after a thrilling snooker display. The Englishman displayed some classy snooker techniques
throughout the tournament. In the first round, Selby faced the Wild Card holder Tian Pengfei. Before the interval, both players were level on 2-2, but the 27-year-old Selby swept the table brilliantly after the break and beat him 5-3.
Selby’s next opponent was compatriot Robert Milkins who got defeated quite easily by 5-1. The English cueman next faced the current Shanghai Masters winner Ali Carter in his quarter-final clash. The
match had all the ingredients of being thriller, however, Selby came out on top with relative ease. The final score of the quarter-final was 5-1, a rather convincing victory for Selby.
The world number four holds a good career record in the current season. He has grabbed 54 match victories out of 71 matches that he played in 2010-11 season with an excellent match winning rate of
76.1 percent. Along with a good percentage of match wins, he also has a good frame winning ratio which is 62.5 percent after clinching 282 frames out of 451.
England’s Judd Trump, who entered the event as a qualifier, beating Ben Woollaston 5-1, stunned everyone including the critics with his extraordinary snooker brilliance. He defeated some of the best
players of world snooker like Marco Fu, Peter Ebdon and Shaun Murphy quite easily.
The 21-year-old triumphed over Marco Fu of Hong Kong 5-3 in the first round of the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011. Trump’s next stop was 38-year-old Mark Davis whom he beat with relative ease to
storm into the quarter-final against former world champion Peter Ebdon. Even though the odds were favouring Ebdon, Trump gave the former world champion no chance to settle down and won the game with a dominant scoreline of 5-1.
The semi-final of the event was even tougher for the Englishman as he was up against the Magician, Shaun Murphy, who is famous for his straight cue playing action and long potting skills. However,
Trump maintained his frame winning momentum after the interval and thrashed Murphy 6-1 in the best-of-11 semi-final clash to storm into his first ever ranking title final match.
Trump’s performance in the 2010-11 season is a bit lower than that of Selby as he holds a 41 out of 58 match win ratio, with a 70.7 percent match winning rate. He possesses a frame winning percentage
of 60.3 after clinching 214 frames out of 355.
Head-to-Head
Mark Selby and Judd Trump have faced each other just two times before; in the Welsh Open 2010 and Players Tour Championship (PTC) 2010-11 Event 3. The 27-year-old Selby defeated Trump 5-2 and 4-3
in both clashes respectively.
The final match of the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011 will take place at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium on Sunday, the 3rd of April. Selby has more chances of winning the title
match as he holds a better record against Trump. On the other hand, Trump has been giving stunning performances recently and proving his critics wrong. He has done major upsets in this tournament so it can be his day too.
