Mark Selby whitewashes Jamie Cope to book quarter-final spot of 2012 Wuxi Classic
Second round proceedings of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament began at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China with a tremendous performance of the World Number one potter and the Wuxi Classic defending champion, England’ Mark Selby as he cruised
into a whitewash victory against compatriot Jamie Cope by the score line of 5-0.
Selby has played up to his standards in the tournament and has proved his class brilliantly despite that fact that a couple of months ago he was suffering from a neck injury. He still has chances to catch the same problem again but he is, according to him,
90 percent fit and can continue playing his new season campaign. The Englishman wanted a superb start after recovering from his injury and it seems that he has got one.
He showed the world that he is back from his struggling form to his tremendous game-play when he claimed his first victory of the 2012 2Wuxi Classic against the winner of the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner, Barry Hawkins by the score line of 5-2. His success
against Cope will definitely boost his confidence in the event as he moves into crucial quarter-final stage.
In his post match interview, Selby said to World Snooker, “I'm obviously happy to win, but I think the score line was a bit flattering. Jamie probably could've pinched two frames, the second and the third frames. It was a strange game because I didn't really
play that well.”
The Jester from Leicester added, “I went 2-0 up and then, I don't know what it was, Jamie just seemed to stop trying and I seemed to lose my concentration a little bit. We more or less dragged each other down.”
His next match is going to be another tough encounter because he will be playing against the winner of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open and a man in for, compatriot Stuart Bingham. Bingham has been a consistent performer in the previous and the recent
snooker season.
He started his Wuxi Classic run with a tremendous win against the former World Snooker Championship winner, compatriot veteran potter Peter Ebdon by 5-4. In his current scintillating form, he can surely challenge Selby in the quarter-final match.
