Mark Selby whitewashes Shaun Murphy in quarters of 2012 World Open
Current World Number one, England’s Mark Selby had everything under control from the very beginning of the quarter-final match of 2012 World Open against the former World Snooker Champion, compatriot Shaun Murphy and trashed him by the whitewash score line
of 5-0.
The conditions at the Haikou Stadium arena in the Hainan Island were a bit troubling because the weather in Hainan in these particular days is warm and humid which is not good for the tables inside the arena. Due to the natural weather conditions of Hainan
at this time of the year make the potting difficult inside the arena.
However, despite the fact that the conditions made Selby to play wearing a glove, he played up to the mark from the start of the game and finished in a marvellous fashion. The Jester from Leicester pocketed some scintillating breaks to nudge his opponent
all five frames down.
Speaking to the World Snooker after his match, Selby said, “For snooker, the weather is making it very, very difficult to play. For me, wearing the glove makes it a little bit easier to cue but the tables still play a lot different to those in the UK due
to the humidity which is making it difficult for players. I played quite well during the match but there are a lot of top class players struggling here.”
Murphy, on the other hand, failed to put any frame victory in the scores. The Magician was suffering from sickness before he entered the arena to play Selby. His sickness might be the reason behind his fall because Murphy is one of the best potters in the
world and it is unlike him falling this way.
Meanwhile, Selby has made his way successfully into the semi-finals of the 2012 World Open snooker tournament where he will be playing against the 2011 UK Championship finalist, Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen. Allen defeated England’s Mark King to set up
Selby semi-final clash.
Both Selby and Allen have played each other a few times where Selby has triumphed over Allen most of the times. This semi-final clash is crucial because the pair has not been in the news for winning any major ranking title so far in this year and both of
them are definitely looking to hit the jackpot.
