Former Australian skipper, Mark http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915, has heaped praise on the young Australian Test debutant, Ed Cowan, terming him to be a ‘well-disciplined’ and reliable batsman who is capable of performing well at the top of the order.
Taylor opines that Cowan is not a typical left-hander, but instead he judges the ball well and knows where to hit. He also claims that the youngster seems to be confident while driving and cutting.
According to Tubby, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377.
While speaking to the media, Taylor said, “He is not your typical left-hander, he's not as comfortable working onto the leg-side but looks confident cutting and driving. He is somebody you can bank on.”
He further added, “He did a very good job blunting the new ball. Cowan was very well disciplined, he left a lot more balls than most in the top order in recent times.”
Ed Cowan has been playing First-Class cricket for the last 8 years and has 55 matches to his credit so far, and his impressive performances in domestic cricket earned him his first baggy green against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. He made his debut in the 1st Test match
on Boxing Day, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against India. He opened the innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301, and Cowan scored an impressive 68, before he was controversially given out caught-behind.
His good shot selection, and maiden half century vindicated the decision of the selectors to pick him in the squad.
Mark Taylor, who played 104 Test matches and 113 ODI matches for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, has also said that batting with Ponting would have been an honour for Fred.
The ex-captain said, “Batting with Ricky Ponting he'd be as happy as a pig in mud. There are other stroke players in the order. His strike rate is ok as long as he goes on to make a big score. He batted well in front of 70,000 people.”
