Shane Watson, the 31-year-old top order batsman, who also bowls handy right-arm medium pace, has been struggling for form over the past two years, averaging a mere 24.11 with the bat in the Tests, as compared to his overall Test batting average of 43.06.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326’s below par performance with the bat over the last 18 months is that the Queenslander is not sure about his position in the time.
While speaking to Radio Sport National on Friday, the 48-year-old New South Welshman said that the Australian selectors and team management should try to get the best out of Watson, adding that it could be done only if they allow the hard-hitting top order
batsman to open the innings.
“If you look at his record, he plays his best opening the batting. Every time he bats down at four, five or six and tries to be a bowler also, he doesn't bat anywhere near as well as he should,” said Taylor, a veteran of 104 Tests and 113 ODIs.
“Even though Shane Watson's bowling certainly is handy, it's not what they need mostly out of him. They need runs out of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558,” insisted the former Aussie skipper.
Taylor further said that Watson not playing to his potential really hurts the Aussies since he is one of Australia's best batsmen.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 and Co is set to leave for England this weekend to play in the Champions Trophy which will be followed by the historic Ashes rivalry. The Kangaroos are also scheduled to play a few practice matches ahead of the Ashes series and Taylor urged
the Australian team management to try different combinations in the pre-Ashes practice matches to find out the best order for the five-match series.
“I think they are going to be absolute trial games for the Australian side,” said Taylor. “They won't be just there for a bit of match practice. I think they'll be trying to work out what is the best order for this Australian side.”
