Mark Teixeira has produced match winning performances since he made his Major League Baseball debut. In his tenure with New York Yankees, not only has he polished his game play, but he has also learned new skills to become one of the most exciting players in the game.
Although Teixeira had another 30 run season in 2011, he was unable to post a decent batting average. Hitting a career low .248 last season, he looked a bit out of sorts. However, the right handed striker is now looking to bring more consistency into his game play to achieve a better batting average.
In an interview with a leading sports website,Teixeira stated that he is considering adding bunting to his game to achieve better results this season.
"One thing I noticed is that my average with men on base was good, but when no one’s on base, it wasn’t,’’ Teixeira said. "So when no one is on base, if they’re playing a big shift, I may lay down some bunts this year."
"I’ve been so against it my entire career," Teixeira added. "If I can beat the shift that way, it’s important. ... I have to adapt. I’ve been frustrated and finally given in."
The striker is excited at playing at Yankee Stadium. He explained that he hasn't bunted in any game since he left his high school team. Teixeira further added that he is very happy about Michael Pineda's addition to the Yankees' pitching line-up.
Pineda, who displayed some high quality pitching skills in his first big league season, was traded for Jesus Montero last month. Pineda will have a great opportunity to build an MVP calibre career for himself with the Yankees.
Answering questions at a Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Yankees' General Manager Cashman stated that the Yankees have a whole new bunch of starting pitchers this season, which will help them reach the World Series.
Teixeira will be looking to improve his career batting average by performing more consistently. He had a great fielding percentage last season and with some more work on his batting, he can play a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the season for the Yankees.
