Mark Trumbo sparks as Los Angeles Angels defeat Texas Rangers 2-1 – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels’ Mark Trumbo launched a walk off homer to help his club avoid series sweep by taking 2-1 win over the rivals Texas Rangers, in the rubber game of the four-game series at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Thursday, August 18.
The Angels were about to lose another series from the rivals when, Trumbo managed to hit a 400-feet long two-run homer to get his team out of the losing streak. The Angels have lost all of the first three games of the series. They lost 8-4 in the first,
7-3 in the second and 4-3 in the third game.
It was the 23rd home-run for Trumbo this season, in which he also elevated his RBIs to 68 with .259 batting averages and .488 slugging averages. He expresses a hop of retaliating in the later game because he has firm belief over his bull-pen.
"Hopefully this is going to propel a nice little run for us," said Trumbo, who is on track to become the first rookie to lead Los Angeles in homers and RBIs. "We've been scuffling and a lot of people are frustrated, I included.”
Angels’ starter Jered Weaver also played a vital role to help the Angels out of this dark period. He tossed seven innings and struck-out five batters while he allowed only one run over in the seventh inning on a homer to Mike Napoli.
"When he makes contact and gets one over the fence, it's usually not a fence-scraper," said Weaver. "It was sure nice, obviously a big hit in a big situation. It's six (games back) now instead of eight, so that definitely helps out."
Bobby Cassevah tossed just over one gritty inning, but had to leave the mound when he allowed a walk in the middle of the ninth inning. Hanley Ramirez had taken over the ball and recorded his first win of the season with less than an inning game.
Rangers’ Colby Lewis’ seven innings shut-out spell went to waste just because of one loose ball by closer Mike Adams, who lost his second game of the season. Lewis took seven batters and allowed only four hits to provide the Rangers a good chance to get
a sweep over the Angels.
