Mark Tullo makes a strong start at the Rolex Trophy
Chilean Mark Tullo recorded a five-under par in the opening round of the European Challenge Tour’s Rolex Trophy at the Golf Club de Geneve on Wednesday, August 22, 2012.
Tullo got off to a confident start and posted four birdies on the front nine for a four-under par score. However, he failed to keep the pace on the back nine and managed to drain only one birdie against eight par putts.
According to him, he missed several birdie chances that could have helped him register an even better score right at the start of the tournament.
Meantime, he was happy with his overall performance because he did not suffer a single bogey throughout the round and hit almost every green in regulation.
He also stated that the greens were soft and easy to play on. Moreover, the weather conditions perfectly suited the players, as there were no winds, leading most of the players to low scores.
The golf commentators believe that the key to success in Geneva is to keep control over the ball while teeing off on every hole.
If one succeeds in hitting the fairways, it will become easier for them to attack the pins after reaching the greens. Otherwise, it will be difficult to save the pars even after the greens are helpful to the players.
Tullo is now five strokes behind the leader Daniel Vancsik, who fired a course-record 10-under par 62 and took the lead over Kristoffer Broberg with a one-stroke margin.
Vancsik started off on the back nine of the course and managed to record six birdies to take the early lead. Another four birdies on the front nine were enough to outlast everyone in the field.
“It was a lot of fun out there – I really like this tournament, it’s definitely one of my favourites of the year. I really enjoy coming here, because it’s nice and relaxed, Geneva is a great city and the course is beautiful – it’s so green, it’s like playing
in a really nice garden! The people are very friendly and they treat you so well, so I enjoy every minute of the week”.
