Mark Tullo off to a strong start at the ECCO Tour Championship
After taking the sixth spot on the leaderboard last weekend at the Norwegian Challenge, Mark Tullo kept his momentum going into the ECCO Tour Championship and tied for the fourth position after round one on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old Chilean recorded a three-under par 69 and settled three strokes behind the pace set by the Frenchman François Delamontagne.
He got off to a confident start and recorded a birdie on the very first hole that he played. He then made bogeys at the second and eighth hole to finish with a one-over par score on the front nine.
Yet, he kept his nerves under control and picked up some pace on the back nine of the course. A birdie on the 10th hole followed by another three in regulation, starting from the 14th hole, allowed him to post a decent score on the leaderboard.
Tullo started off his round in the afternoon when the wind was a major factor in creating problems for the players. He told that the course was really difficult and making the right calculations was not easy.
Therefore, uncertainty was always there when ever he played a stroke in the air. Still, he managed to give a solid performance in the end.
There are now only three players who scored better than him. Joachim B Hansen scored a five-under par 67 and James Busby carded a four-under par 68 to take the second and third spot, respectively.
On Thursday, he will be among the early starters and can take the advantage of the lack of winds early in the morning.
He can also challenge the leaders on top of the leaderboard who will have to face the challenge of strong winds that start to blow in the afternoon. Therefore, he has a chance to secure a strong position while entering the final two rounds.
He currently aims for his third victory on the Challenge Tour, as he won the Rolex Trophy and Egyptian Open in 2010.
Other than that, he also has 24 victories registered to his name. However, all of them came on mini tours in Chile.
