Mark Turner joins Derbyshire
Fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Turner-c1911 has signed a two-year contract to play for Derbyshire from the 2011 season onwards.
Turner was offered a new contract to stay on at Somerset where he has played for the last four years. However, he struggled to secure a place in Somerset's county championship team, which is the reason
behind the move.
He said: "I have played quite a bit of one day cricket with Somerset and I've done quite well.
But I haven't managed to establish myself in the four-day game and that is what I'm trying to achieve.
Derbyshire showed an interest in me and I knew the move was the right thing to do."
Turner will be a very popular and productive player at Derbyshire for a number of reasons. He should hit the ground running at the start of next season for his new team.
A quality player
Turner does not possess a great deal of pace but he is consistently accurate. He can land the ball on the right line and length nearly every delivery. This makes him difficult
to defend against in certain conditions.
He must be praised for showing some desire and fight. Somerset looks set to win the division one county championship title this season and no one would have blamed Turner
for staying put. However, he's shown initiative to seek a move and improve his game.
Turner is a very clever bowler who can adapt to different conditions and different formats of the game. He should be a leading figure for Derbyshire in every competition
next season.
Derbyshire's head of cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Morris-c68398 added: "Mark is a talented cricketer
with his best years ahead of him and I am delighted to add him to our squad ahead of the 2011 season.
That fact that he has been prepared to make this move in search of first team cricket demonstrates that Mark is an ambitious cricketer who is striving to better himself."
Betting advice
Have a punt on Turner taking the most wickets at Derbyshire next season. Do this quickly because the odds will shorten if he starts next season well.
