Mark Wallis’ Blonde Snapper wins Williamhill.com Classic as he finished in the fastest time of the day
Mark Wallis’s Blonde Snapper made his way to the final of the Williamhill.com Classic by winning the semifinal at Sunderland in the best time of the day.
The three-year-old dog covered the 450 meter distance in a swift 27.23 seconds, proving that injury can do little to hinder his career.
The first semifinal was opened by Lampard who set the early pace but was overtaken by Blonde Snapper at the halfway point.
Blonde Snapper then slowed down a little, but he was still able to leave behind Lampard and win by 1 ½ lengths.
Since the first two to cross the finish line were to make it to the final, both, Blonde Snapper and Lampard, have qualified for the final and waiting to compete again.
The second semifinal was a close call between Skywalker Gold and Westmead Guru. Eventually Skywalker Gold, trained by Ted Soppitt, won the race in 27.30 seconds.
In the third semifinal, Jimmy Wright’s Magna Buddy beat Jordansoilutions in 27.30 seconds.
This means that the £25,000 final on Thursday, the 14th of July, will comprise a field of six runners.
With the trapdraws now in, Westmead Guru will run from Trap 1, Jordansoilutions from Trap 2, Magna Buddy from Trap 3, Lampard from Trap 4, Blonde Snapper from Trap 5 and Skywalker Gold from Trap 6.
Both, Blonde Snapper and Magna Buddy, are the sponsor’s favourites at 5/2 odds, thanks to their brilliant performances throughout the tournament.
Blonde Snapper, son of Droopys Kewell and Rough Charley, born in October 2008, won last week at Sunderland over the same distance by sprinting off from Trap 4 and finishing in a spectacular 26.94 seconds.
He defeated Move Over Jered by 3 ¼ lenghths.
The same day, Magna Buddy slaughtered the field including rival, Yahoo Jamie, by finishing in 26.72 seconds by a 1 ½ length margin.
The Williamhill.com Festival can be a big break for Wallis as he has two entrants, Blonde Snapper and Blonde Fletch, in the two major races of the festival, Willamhill.com Classic and Williamhill.com Grand Prix, supreme among greyhound racing events respectively.
With a performance as impressive as the semifinal’s, Blonde Snapper is very likely to win the final as well to take home the £25,000 prize and bring Wallis immense pride.
By finishing in the fastest time, Snapper proved his dominance over the other competitors and the fact that he will be tough competition for the rest of the field this Thursday.
