Mark Walsh and the magic of darts
With the beginning of the new year and with the Ladbrokes Darts Championship already into its full momentum, it is being anticipated that some unsung and forgotten heroes of darts will be able to reinstate their prestige and reputation back in the game.
One such unsung hero and player of darts has been Mark Walsh. The Special Brew of darts has been endeavouring to keep up with the earlier standards of performance that he had established.
However, at present, it seems clear that he has losing grip on the oche, especially when it comes to consistency. A brief look on his career in the game will further testify for the claim made.
After a rather, terrible start in mainstream darts, when he faced a 10-0 defeat at the hands of John Part, Walsh decided to have a better and broad spectrum of the game, before he loses his morale due to such experiences.
His proper debut in mainstream darts came in the year 2004 but, unfortunately, his scope of understanding regarding the game and its competitive context was still limited.
This can further be manifested from the fact that Walsh was not able to claim a victory in the game until 2006 and that also at his third attempt in which he defeated Warren Parry by 4-0.
The spirit and happiness of his debut win was soon equalised by a defeat he had to face at the hands of Dennis Smith in the very next round.
Since then, he has never been able to maintain his position among the top notch players of darts, and even more surprising is that he is happy with his position of being an underdog in darts.
It is also important to mention here that Walsh’s career has been filled with various upsets that have further added questions on the nature of game and performance that he has delivered during all this time.
It might come as a surprise for many Mark Walsh fans but the player has also lost a match against a 19-year-old Dutch player, Rico Vonck, back in 2007.
According to darts experts and pundits, a key issue that has served as a barrier for Walsh in the development of his darts career is his lack of consistency.
This inconsistency is visible throughout his career in darts. He wins a game, he gets overconfident and in the midst of the very feeling, he faces a terrible defeat. His temperament towards the game is highly unpredictable.
It has primarily been because of his highly capricious performance due to which he has been the target of immense criticism throughout the time span he has spent in mainstream darts.
Before the beginning of Ladbrokes Darts Championship of 2011-2012 there was news that he has been able to overcome his form
He appears to be in complete momentum and rhythm to give all his opponents a tough time at the grand event.
This was further verified by the mental and physical condition that he was able to show in his last couple of appearances.
However, contrary to all expectations, Walsh once again emerged as a disappointment for all those who had clinched their hopes regarding the revival of this player.
His opening encounter against Aussie Warren French further intensified the flames of hope after he was able to win the match 3-1.
History repeated itself after he once again lost his nerve against Kevin Painter, leading to his elimination from the grand event. He once again not only failed himself but also his fans.
