http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 Ponting’s return to form – Cricket News Update
Mark Waugh, former Australian cricketer, had heaps of praise for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Ponting announced his return to form with a slap-up innings of 134 runs. This was Punter’s first ton in nearly two years; the middle-order batsman last scored a century in January, 2010 at Hobart in a game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
Waugh, who used to open the innings in his days with the Australian team, believes Ponting’s career is far from over. The former cricketer agreed that Punter’s best days are behind him but reckons that there is still a lot of gas
left in the aging cricketer’s tank.
Expecting Ponting to score loads of runs, Waugh said, “He has threatened in the past three or four months with quite a few 50s and it's just good to see him make that hundred. He batted pretty well. I suppose you keep comparing
him to the batsmen he was in his prime and he's not quite that player, but he's still very effective.”
The former cricketer continued, “He's a class player. That will keep the wolves at bay for a while I guess. He'll probably relax a bit more now and you'll probably see him make a lot more runs before this Test series is out.”
Ponting has been under the radar for some time now. The 37-year-old was not meeting the expectations as a result voices were raised questioning his position in the final XI. Some former cricketers believed that Punter was no longer
an asset and should retire.
Ponting will be hoping that his knock at SCG will silence these voices. The middle-order batsman along with his skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 strengthened Australia’s grip in the match. The duo added 288 runs on the board for the fourth
wicket, as the hosts took a solid first innings lead of 291 runs with six wickets in hand. The 37-year-old was the last man to be dismissed, however, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 is still at the crease and has 251 runs to his name.
