Mark Waugh predicts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 Ponting’s resurrection in New Zealand series – Cricket News Update
Former Australian batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 will bounce back during the upcoming Test series against New Zealand, starting from Thursday, December 1, 2011.
The veteran batsman has been below par over the past one year and needs to play a couple of big knocks to secure his place in the Test side.
There does not seem much wrong with Ponting’s batting, as he has been playing consistently well in One Day International (ODI) cricket. However, the confidence is not there when it comes to the longest version of the game.
The veteran got some confidence back in a recently concluded Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, as he scored a solid half-century in difficult conditions at New Wanderers.
The innings proved to be a crucial one for the team, as the Kangaroos went onto win by just two wickets in the end. They managed to level the two match series by 1-1, as the Proteas had already won the opening game in Cape Town.
Waugh was impressed with the way Ponting batted against the quality pace attack of the opposition and said, “I thought there were very good signs in the last Test in Johannesburg that he was getting back to somewhere near his best. He won't face better bowling
than that this year. That was high quality Test match bowling. That is a good gauge and he will get a lot of confidence out of that.”
The former Test cricketer further went onto say, “You don't lose your ability overnight. You might slow down a little bit (with) your reflexes but I still think he (Ponting) has got a fair bit to give the Australian team. If he makes runs he can play for
as long as he likes.”
Earlier, star Aussie batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942 also said that the former skipper has a lot to offer in the future and his contribution to the team is not just limited to batting, as he passes on a great deal of experience to the youngsters.
Ponting will gain a lot of confidence, getting support from former and current team-mates. He will now look to translate that into the back to back series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
