Mark Webber: Clampdown on Blown Diffuser not going to affect Red Bull a lot – Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Formula 1 driver mark Webber has stated that his team is not going to suffer from the Diffuser clampdown which is going to take effect from the Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Webber stated that Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari are all fast in the 2011 Formula 1 season and will adapt to the situation nicely.
The Aussie driver, currently fourth on the drivers’ championship table with some handsome performances in the first seven races of the season, commented that it would have been more cost effective if the International Automobile Federation (FIA) would have
banned the Diffuser before the start of the season.
Webber stated, “It would have been cost-effective to know this before the season had started as everyone was already looking at it at the end of last year. So it's not a trivial thing to introduce into the middle of the season but we are all in the same
boat and will adjust.”
The Aussie driver added, “It's nothing new to our team to adapt to a change in regulations - I don't think it will turn the field upside down. Ferrari, McLaren and us are quick, But we are not overly concerned. We have to get on with it.”
The Blown Diffuser was brought and mastered by the Red Bull team with which they secured all the seven pole position of the 2011 season.
Webber has scored three podium positions in the first seven races of the season and is well on course to beat McLaren’s Jenson Button in the drivers’ table.
However, in the 2010 Valencia race, Webber had a horrific crash with Lotus’ Heikki Kovalainen and retired from the race.
Nevertheless, the Valencia Grand Prix will be the eighth grand prix of the 2011 season and the last one with the Diffuser technology. It is expected that it will be another Red Bull race as they have taken advantage of the Diffuser in all the previous races
of the season.
