Mark Webber: Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel to watch out for – Formula 1
Red Bull’s Mark Webber feels that a smooth sailing in the 2011 Formula 1 season’s Spanish Grand Prix will be difficult after he secured the pole position in the Qualifiers.
The 34-year-old Australian stated that apart from 2011 rule changes and overtaking aids, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel will be tough to contain on the race day.
After taking pole position in the Spanish qualifiers, Webber seemed confident about a win to make it two in two years.
The Aussie stated, “I obviously have some very strong rivals. Fernando (Alonso), Lewis (Hamilton) and Seb are all phenomenal. But I feel I am at the top of my game again, so there shouldn’t be a reason not to be fighting for the win.”
Webber added that Barcelona is a well familiar track to him and he will try his level best to win the race on Sunday.
The last few Spanish races were not known for their overtaking moves but Webber thinks that the 2011 innovations will play handy.
He said, “The wing is very powerful on the long straight, so it will be very interesting to see how creative guys try to change their position.”
By securing the pole position in Spain, Webber jeopardised Vettel’s world record hopes of equalling the most number of consecutive pole positions set by Michael Schumacher.
Talking about the fact, Webber stated that Vettel did not have the smoothest of the days in Barcelona which cost him his sixth consecutive pole position in a row.
However, Webber commented that apart from the pole position, Vettel is still dangerous on Sunday when he starts the race from second position.
Talking about the McLaren and Ferrari teams, Webber stated that both teams will fight hard among themselves but there are fewer chances of them disturbing Red Bull.
After having scored a fifth, fourth, third and a second place finish so far in the first four races of the 2011 season, a race win in Barcelona is on the cards for Webber. Let’s see how it transpires on Sunday.
