Mark Webber: I am looking to finish in second place in 2011 championship – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he is looking forward to keep his second place in the 2011 Formula 1 championship until the end of the ongoing season.
Webber also stated that it would be difficult to beat Sebastian Vettel in the 2011 championship battle, as he has already scored a lot of points for the title at the start of the season.
The team driver admitted that Vettel did a fantastic job in the initial races of this season and that he is still performing very well for the team.
Vettel seemed to be in a very competitive form from the start of the 2011 Formula 1 season and he put a positive step forward towards his 2011 success in the first race of the season.
Talking to reporters, Webber said, “It hasn't been as straight forward and easy for him in the last [few] races because it's been more competitive and it's tightened up a little bit. But the championship is over a whole season and those points he's got in
the bank are his to keep.”
The 34-year-old driver went on to mention, “But in general you just have to take each race as it comes, let the points will look after themselves and make sure you keep your regrets to a minimum at each race and do your absolute best.”
The Australian further said that winning the 2011 title is a huge ask at the moment, because he is 85 points behind Vettel in the drivers’ championship.
The Red Bull driver was unable to perform well on the grid in the initial races of this season due to some issues in his RB7 car. After fixing all issues, Webber made improvements in terms of performance race-by-race.
In the recently held Hungarian Grand Prix, he finished his race at the fifth place behind McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton after a close fight with him in the closing laps.
Webber is looking forward to successful upcoming race weekends following his positive performance in the season so far.
Let’s see how Webber performs in the second part of this season after coming back from the August break.
