Mark Webber: KERS question still not solved, Red Bull working hard to learn the issue – Formula 1
34 years old Australian driver, Mark Webber, has said that the Red Bull team is still not out of the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) problem, but is working hard to identify a solution.
Webber added that KERS has let down the team’s performance on one or two occasions but the team is working hard to get it ready for the next race.
So far, Red Bull’s KERS system has failed in the first three races of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Along with Webber, Sebastian Vettel also lost the Chinese Grand Prix partly due to the KERS failure in his RB7.
Webber anticipates that the KERS issue will be fixed in the near future but for now the team has not figured out the problem.
The Australian said, “We are not out of the woods completely. The guys are working incredibly hard on it [KERS], but it will take time. There is a good chance that every race we learn ten or 15 percent more. Let’s say we are at 70 percent now”.
One of the setback for Red Bull in the 2011 season is not having a proper working KERS in their car. On more than one occasion, the fully functional package of McLaren team has outclassed the KERS malfunctioned Red Bull team.
In the last race, Lewis Hamilton got the better of Vettel in the final few laps.
Webber further thinks that along with KERS, DRS (Drag Reduction System) and Pirelli have made the 2011 season abnormal for the team.
He stated, “I would say that tyres are 60 percent, rear wing 30 percent and KERS 10 percent”.
Nevertheless, the Turkish Grand Prix is around the corner and the Red Bull’s duo doesn’t have a great memory of the 2010’s race when they both crashed.
Webber managed to complete the race and finished third. Along with that, Webber also has a second place finish in the 2009 Turkish Grand Prix.
The Australian is very confident about making it three out of three of podiums in the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix. Let’s wait for the race on Sunday to conclude the debate...
