Mark Webber: Lotus is the most consistent car in the field – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that after seeing the performances of the contenders in the races and tests until now, Lotus F1 team seems to have the most consistent car in the field.
The Australian driver expressed his views after Romain Grosjean of Lotus set the best time on the second day of the in-season test held at Mugello circuit.
“If you look at all the races and the tests then the Lotus is the most consistent car in the field,” he said.
Moreover, he said that even though they have a competitive car, however, they have a strong tussle with many other teams who are competent enough to fight for the championship title.
“We have a very good car but we have company, that’s clear. We’ve got some teams that are performing pretty well and if we’re not totally on our game we will be punished,” said Webber.
On the other hand, Ross Brawn, the team principal of Mercedes AMG said that the pecking order has been inconsistent this year as there have been four different winners in the first four races of the season who drove the cars with entirely different setups.
Brawn also said that to understand the new generation of Pirelli tyres has been quite a challenge for them.
“It’s an exciting challenge because when you get it right as we did in China then obviously you can get some great results,” said Brawn, “but it’s adding another layer of challenge to the normal challenge we face.”
Although, the defending champions faced difficulties to find the full potential of RB8 during the start of the season, nevertheless, they are still leading the constructors’ championship with 101 points ahead of McLaren. However, they are not feeling as
confident as they were in the preceding year.
Meanwhile, Lotus have emerged as one of the most competitive teams in this year as they are standing at third place with 57 points and are 12 points ahead of Ferrari.
The Brackley-based team is at fifth place in the season until now with 37 points. Furthermore, every team is aiming to make the necessary preparations for the approaching races so as to make their position strong in the championship battle.
