Mark Webber: Red Bull Racing Team is currently in its best shape this season – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing Team’s Mark Webber has recently stated that his team is currently in its best shape this season since the team will be starting its first race with both its drivers in the first row of the grid.
The reigning world champion, Sebastian Vettel, was struggling this weekend since he was unable to compete in the 2nd Free Practice session last Friday, May 6th, because he crashed out of the first session due to which his car was not
ready for the second session.
However, the young German recovered impressively, recording the fastest time in the final Free Practice session on Saturday, May 7th, before scoring the pole position by a 4 tenths’ margin over his teammate in the final race.
“Particularly for me it was a little bit more interesting. Obviously I would have liked to have had a couple more tenths to have the margin, obviously Seb did a very good lap for pole but mine wasn't too bad”, said Webber.
The Australian driver revealed that the team decided to save its tyres for the qualifying session since the team is going to start from the first row of the grid, the position every team wishes for before the race.
“We spoke about it before qualifying that tomorrow is going to be a pretty long race and every lap you can try to get back today might help you a little bit tomorrow”, he added.
Red Bull Racing Team has been dominating the season primarily through Vettel so far but now it seems that Webber is also supporting him to produce positive results for Red Bull.
The reigning world champion took 4 pole positions in 4 consecutive Grand Prix(s), a perfect score, but his race winning scores were dented after he lost the Chinese Grand Prix to Lewis Hamilton.
However, the team is hoping to capitalize on the advantage once again this weekend which is very likely, considering the pace of Red Bull’s RB7.
