Mark Webber: Sergio Perez’s second place finish at Malaysian GP not a coincidence – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has admired the remarkable performance of Sauber-Ferrari’s driver Sergio Perez at the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix and said securing a second-place finish is not just a coincidence.
The Mexican driver has surprised everyone with his outstanding performance on the wet track in the second GP. Furthermore, he also tried his best to overtake the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso who won the race in the end. Nevertheless, he expressed an immense
pleasure on his second place finish after the race.
While some have been calling it a stroke of luck for Perez, Webber refused to accept it as one and said that to achieve second podium cannot be any fluke.
“I don't think anyone would have expected Fernando Alonso to win the Malaysian Grand Prix for Ferrari or Sergio Perez to be second in the Sauber,” Webber wrote in his column for the BBC. “It was a surprise result but that can often happen when the heavens
open like that. There are so many opportunities to make errors in those conditions, but their teams got their strategy calls and pit stops mostly right - and when Fernando and Perez got out front they weren't hanging around either.”
Besides, there have been many speculations even before the start of the second race concerning the replacement of the Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa who has failed to score any point in this season so far, with Perez. Nonetheless, Perez has expressed his utmost
commitment with Sauber for the season ahead.
Moreover, Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali has said that the team will support Massa in each and every area in order to build up his confidence and to improve his performance in the upcoming races.
Additionally, Webber has said that he was ‘reasonably satisfied’ with his start while he said that there is more pace yet to be shown from some of the teams.
He also said that they will only feel completely satisfied if they could arise to the front, for which they are striving at their best.
