Mark Webber admits he felt Sebastian Vettel was in a different league than him – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber admits that he has felt like driving in a different category to his team-mate Sebastian Vettel during the 2011 season.
Webber saw his younger team-mate Vettel after winning the 2010 title, dominate in the 2011 season. Vettel recorded a total of 11 victories in the season and was unmatched. Webber driving the same car as Vettel could only manage a single victory out of the
season and that too came in the final race of the season when the German’s car had a technical fault and had to slow down.
The 2012 season has had a different script altogether, it has not let any one driver or team to dominate. So far there have been six different winners out of the six Grands Prix so far.
“Last year was a little bit of a mystery to be honest,” he said. “The gap sometimes was really, really extreme and it was hard for me to understand why it was like that sometimes. I think there was also a factor of me getting on top of the tyres but it wasn't
all of it.”
“I didn't feel that I had lost that much form but as the season went on, obviously things got a bit closer and a little bit better. The first five months was very tough and I was in a different category to the other car, whereas this year it's much, much
more like 2009 or 2010, which is nice,” he added.
Webber won the Monaco GP which took a lot of focus and some strong nerves. The Grand Prix saw eight drivers retire such was the complexity of the race. The Aussie has been considered to be a supporting driver to Vettel but he says he feels confident now
and all his problems are solved now.
Webber said that the key to success in the season is going to be consistency and grabbing on to the opportunities that come your way. He said that winning is the main thing and once you do that you need to remain consistent.
It will be interesting to see how well Webber performs in the next race of the season which is going to take place in Canada. It is going to be much different than the Monaco track as it has long straights and is mostly a high speed track. The race is scheduled
for June 10, 2012.
