Mark Webber admits he had conversations with Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has admitted that he had some conversations with Ferrari before signing the new contract with his current team for 2013.
Webber’s agreement was to be expired at the end of this season. Nevertheless, he has recently signed a new deal with the defending champions for the next season.
Moreover, he has accepted that he had talks with the Scarlet team. However, he asserted that he has always desired to stay with Red Bull as he has developed a very good relationship with all the team members.
He added that he is focussing to perform well in the forthcoming season so as to score some good points for his team in order to defend their title.
“There were discussions with Ferrari, but my decision was to stay here,” he said. “It's been an interesting few months, but overall the continuity and desire for me to continue at Red Bull Racing was very strong. My main focus is on this year's Championship,
which is very important. In addition it's an amazing bunch of guys and girls at Red Bull Racing and I really, really like working with them. That has a huge effect on me and how I perform in the car and it helped me in my decision.”
It will be important to mention that he took an impressive victory in the 2012 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit after setting off from the second grid position.
Furthermore, after winning the British GP, he became the second driver to score two race victories in the season so far.
Currently, he is at second place in the drivers’ rankings with 116 points. Besides, he is 16 points ahead of his teammate, Sebastian Vettel and is 13 points behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who is leading the drivers’ championship.
Meanwhile, Red Bull are at the top of constructors’ championship with 216 points and have a lead of 64 points over Ferrari.
Over and above, they are surely the most favourite contender in this year’s championship and it will be very interesting to see how they come up in the season ahead.
