Mark Webber admits that needs to be ‘inch-perfect’ during qualifying sessions in 2011 – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing Team’s Mark Webber has recently stated that he needs to be inch-perfect during the qualifying sessions in 2011 in order to beat his teammate, the reigning Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Sebastian Vettel has been outstanding in qualifying as he has a perfect score of 4 positions in 4 races up until now this season. As a result, Vettel has been quite consistent during the races as well with 3 wins in 4 races and at the Turkish Grand Prix,
the young German has proved it once again that he is in a league of his own in terms of pace.
Mark Webber on the other hand has been struggling to perform as he has scored just 2 podium positions in 4 races.
“I've now finished fifth, fourth, third and second in the four races of the year, so the trend is going in the right direction. We're off to Barcelona next, which is a track I like a lot,” Webber told the media.
He added that in 2010, he secured a victory at the Spanish Grand Prix which is the next race on the Formula 1 calendar and is expected to take place on May 22, 2011.
The race is going to take place in Barcelona which is the same place where the team scored some pretty good results during the pre-season testing period of this season.
However, Webber admitted that in order to perform better than his teammate, he would have to score flawless performances in the future.
“I'll need to be inch-perfect in qualifying and then have a cleaner first stint in the race than I did in Turkey because that will throw open a few more options in terms of strategy,” he said.
It is quite clear that Vettel is currently at the top of his game up until now and it seems that the only way to defeat him is to perform perfectly. Since Webber is using the same technology as the reigning world champion, it seems that the only difference
between the two drivers is their car set-up and performance.
Statistically, Mark is currently 38 points adrift of the drivers’ standings leader Sebastian Vettel. However, there are still 15 races remaining and the season has just begun. McLaren and Ferrari are now looking pretty strong as well and since McLaren’s
Lewis Hamilton pulled off a victory at the Chinese Grand Prix, it seems that Red Bull Racing Team is beatable after all.
Lewis Hamilton is currently Vettel’s closest rival as he is just 34 points behind the reigning world champion in the drivers’ standings.
