Mark Webber aims to secure a better position at 2012 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he is looking forward to secure a better position in Chinese Grand Prix which is going to be held at Shanghai International Circuit on April 15, 2012.
The Australian driver has performed reasonably well in the first two races of the season and currently stands at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 24 points.
Webber qualified for fifth place in the grid after the qualifying of the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia while finished at fourth position in the race and the secured the same finish in the second race at Sepang International Circuit
in Malaysia.
Even though, Webber has not been able to take a victory in China, he still feels positive about the race and hopes to secure a competitive finish. He also said that Shanghai circuit is quite different as compared to the Sepang circuit while he said that
it will be interesting to see how each contender perform there.
“Shanghai is a track that has been pretty good to me in the past. I’m yet to notch up my first victory, but I’ve had some memorable podiums there, notably the extreme wet race in 2009 and my third place from 18th on the grid. I expect this year’s race to
be as exciting, but clearly I’m looking to start in a much better position. It’s going to be interesting to see how the long straight will affect people’s strengths and weaknesses in terms of top speeds; the flow of the rest of the circuit is something that
I really enjoy,” said Webber.
On the other hand, Webber’s teammate Sebastian Vettel could not secure even a single point in the second GP after his clash with Narain Karthikeyan of HRT. Nevertheless, after the unfortunate incident in the second race, the veteran German has said that
he is focusing on the next race in China.
It will be interesting to mention that the defending champions are still struggling to find out the full potential of their car RB8 for which they are working at their best.
