Mark Webber aims to win every race until the end of the season
The Australian driver, Mark Webber insists that he is coming to the Singapore Grand prix to win this weekend and will not be satisfied with simple points finishes at any race for the rest of this season.
Mark Webber took the drivers’ standings lead after finishing in 6th place to score 8 points at the Italian Grand Prix two weeks ago. The 34-year old has scored a total of 187 points until now making him 5 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton is 2nd
place. The two leaders are followed by Fernando Alonso in 3rd place with 166 points ahead of Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel with 165 and 163 points respectively.
The Australian got lucky at the Italian grand prix, as Lewis Hamilton was not able to finish the race at Monza costing him the drivers’ championship lead. However, Red Bull has been working better than the rest of the teams at high-down force tracks and
since Singapore is quite similar to Monte Carlo and Hungary, the team is aiming for nothing less than the top.
It will not be as easy as it sounds as if Ferrari is now looking quite strong as well after the Italian Grand Prix and McLaren has installed a couple of upgrades in order to make their car more suitable for the high-down force nature of the Marina bay. Mark
is not opting for a low-risk approach and is still aiming to win each race until the end of the season to ensure his title win with ease.
Webber believes that usually, a driver gets what he deserves in Formula 1. “We know non-finishes are not part of the menu, so we need to make sure we don't do that and I need to keep scoring”, Webber said.
Yes, it sounds as boring as watching paint dry but that is how it is. In Formula 1, getting as many points as a driver can, chipping away and winning makes a difference. That will be Mark Webber’s goal, to try to do everything in his power to win.
Mark thinks that it is suicide to sit back and think that it will be OK to pick up a fifth and sixth place. That is never good enough if you want to become a winner.
“We know that in Monza, those kind of races, well particularly the race that I had there wasn't what we want to do for the rest of the year and we're looking forward to some podiums in the future and that's what we need to do at this stage, to keep in the
hunt”, he added.
The Australian thinks that his chances of winning at Singapore are high, as he believes that the circuit will suite Red Bull better than the rest of the cars and they will perform better than they did at the Spa Francorchamps and Monza.
“It's a track which should be good for our car. It's bumpy and a few things here and there which have been pretty good for us in the past, so we're optimistic that we can continue to chip away, keep boxing and it's important to do that in the next few weeks
and then the closer it gets the more exciting it will be”, said the Red Bull driver.
The 34-year-old claims the team knew without a doubt that they will not be in their best shape at Spa and Monza and that these two races will be a challenge for the team. Red Bull has a great car this year and they have been quite consistent almost at every
race however, they do not have the best car for Italy or Belgium when compared to their rivals since both of the tracks are unique due to their low-down force nature. The team is definitely focused on every track, especially on the tracks where the team is
sure that they have the better package.
