Mark Webber arrives in Australia to attend his own Tasmania Challenge – Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Mark Webber arrived in Australia to attend his own Tasmania Challenge, also known as the Mark Webber Challenge, on Thursday.
The Australian driver has just come back from Brazil finishing his Formula 1 season last Sunday.
“It was a bit of an epic trip to get here, but it’s just so awesome to see the Challenge in full steam,” Webber said. “The weather has been sensational, and while it’s only early days, everyone is having a great time and the event is going well. It’ll be
great to get on the course on Friday and Saturday and have a look at it, and smell it and breathe it a little bit. I love doing it.”
The driver said that due to the longer F1 season, he did not have the time to prepare for the challenge as before. However, he said that the event is so well established now that his presence or absence does not affect it. He told that everybody enjoys the
event and it will be great if he can join in.
The event is attended by adventure champions, Olympians, surfers and footballers from around the world. Webber said that it makes him very proud that these people who have performed on a wider stage come to participate and the way this event is covered by
media both locally and internationally.
Webber is of the opinion that it is amazing to see people who have not tried anything like this before take part in the challenge and then actually complete the competition.
Webber said that he started the challenge after he went on an adventure with his friends on the island of Tasmania in 2003. The event carries on for five days and is organised over some very beautiful locations of Tasmania. The challenge includes many sporting
events like surfing and mountain biking. The money raised from the five-day event is sent to Mark Webber Foundation which spends money on various Australian charities which include the Leukemia Foundation and The Whitelion Foundation.
The challenge is supported by many sponsors who also include Webber’s F1 team Red Bull Racing.
