Mark Webber believes Korean Grand Prix may prove to be a lottery
The upcoming race in Formula one 2010 season may prove to be most crucial one as far as the title race is concerned. There are 3 races left in the season, the next one is at Korea which will be followed by the Brazilian Grand Prix and the season would end
at Abu Dhabi.
Mark Webber, the man on top of leader board believes that the next race may be very important, as this would be the first Grand Prix in Korea and no one has any experience of the track. He said it may turn out to be a lottery at the end of the day, and if
he can register a win it would inch him closer to his first world championship.
Mark Webber is on top of the table with 220 points; behind him is Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso on 214 points. Trailing behind is Sebastian Vettel with the same amount of points but due to fewer of race wins he is on 3rd spot.
Webber said that all drivers would go to Korea 3 days before the race and would asses’ the conditions and the track. He added that it is not possible to size up circuit without going there. He said that the driver who can get to grips with the circuit would
be able to get most points. Webber said that he is very clear in his mind about what he needs to do; he said it was quite simple that he had to win the race.
Mark Webber reiterated that the new points system this season of 25 points for a win means that one race can certainly change things, but the next one can equally affect the points table. So it would be premature to call any result a season deciding moment
for now. He said that the title would not be decided until the race at Abu Dhabi comes to an end.
Webber was 2nd in last Grand Prix in Japan, and retained the top position in the table. He said that he is not content with just finishing on the podium as it would not confirm the title for him, he said that winning the race is integral and he
would not aim to just finish in top 3 and be happy.
"Clearly, if my rivals have a rough weekend it makes it a bit harder for them and it gives me a bit more scope, but I'm not looking to abuse that because it can all go pear-shaped very fast.
"Having a lead is great, but it only counts when you get to the last race and we haven't got there yet, have we?" said Webber.
There were some reservations from FIA ahead of the Korean Grand Prix as there were number of final minute preparations left at the Yeongam circuit. It was not until the 12th of October that the Korean circuit got the go ahead. Webber said that
since Korean race was not certain it was not easy to prepare for the Grand Prix and that may be the reason most of the teams will get there under prepared.
Commenting once again on the title race, Webber said that looking at the points table he may be ahead. But that does not mean that he is also the favourite, he added that in the past they have seen how things change in last few races so he would give it
his best until the end.
Mark Webber has not won an F1 title in his long career, and many believe after all his services to the game. He would be a worthy winner and so would be Red Bull as it would be a delightful story of an underdog triumph.
