Mark Webber believes Red Bull are making good progress – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber says that Red Bull are making good progress with the new car and looks promising after the first day of the final pre-season test in Barcelona.
Webber drove the RB8 and completed over a 100 laps and finished the day with the fourth fastest time of the day.
“We are making progress, there are so many things to obviously consider,” Webber said. “When we have a pretty condensed winter programme like all the teams have you need to get your priorities right and work on those as best you can.”
He also added that the experience comes in for the team during these tests but it is also unfortunate that the teams do not have enough time to do as much testing required. That is something most teams will be feeling like so it is an even contest in that
regard but it would be better if there were more days to test.
The difference between the teams on the first day remained under 2.3 seconds which shows the close competition 2012 will feature amongst the teams. Webber confirmed that the season will be a closely fought and the title is much more in range of all the teams
than it was in 2011.
Webber will be under some pressure as talks of his retirement have been surfacing now for some time. The Aussie has shown no interest in retiring but there have been suggestions that Red Bull might look into replacing him for the 2013 season.
The Aussie will also be looking to close the wide gap between his teammate Sebastian Vettel and him. Vettel took 11 wins in the 2011 season while Webber only managed to win a single Grand Prix.
Red Bull is looking good but has not shown the dominance it showed in 2011. Speculations of Mercedes, Lotus, McLaren and even Sauber setting up the season for a strong showdown are rife and are going to make the season much more exciting.
“It's not just going to be one event, one ninety minute race in Albert Park won't be deciding the championship it's going to be whoever can pull things together for the first part of the championship, come back with some decent points and then go from there,”
Webber told how things will pan out in the season.
