Mark Webber believes Red Bull lacked consistency in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber believes that they lacked consistency in 2012 Formula 1 season because of some technical issues due to which he couldn’t fight for the championship title.
Webber performed amazingly well during the opening few races of this season and stood amongst one of the most consistent points scorers. Furthermore, he was deemed as a competent title contender during the start because of his excellent pace.
However, the Milton Keynes based team struggled a lot with its car’s design because of the amendments in the rules and regulations by FIA. Resultantly, the Australian driver failed to keep up his level of consistency and could only secure sixth place finish
in the drivers’ championship in the end.
It will be important to mention that Red Bull performed with impressive consistency during the last two seasons and didn’t have to fight too hard to claim the drivers’ and the constructors’ titles.
Moreover, Webber’s teammate, Sebastian Vettel entirely dominated during the last season as he won 11 races as compared to this year in which he fought for the title until the last race.
Therefore, the Aussie has insisted that they need to bring back their consistency so as to achieve more success in the future.
“We need to get some of that 2011 and '10 consistency back,” Webber admitted. “We lost some of that this year. Some of it was through no fault of my own, some was.”
“I tried to force some issues where I was not being prepared to finish fifth or sixth, which you had to grab this year. That's something that is a pain in the a**e sometimes but you have to do it,” he said.
“We were very strong at the start of the year but then we had three races on the bounce with diff issues and penalties,” he added.
Besides, he said that he is not going to play a supporting role in the future and will fight his own battle for the championship title.
The 36-year-old has been considered as one of the most hardworking and talented drivers in the sport and it will be thrilling to see how he shows up in the next year.
