Mark Webber believes ban on engine mapping will not change much at the European Grand Prix
Red Bull Racing team driver Mark Webber has said that he is not expecting the order or the performance of the teams to change much at the European Grand Prix because of the ban recently enforced against engine mapping.
“It's nothing new to our team to adapt to a change in regulations. I don't think it will turn the field upside down. Ferrari, McLaren and us are quick. It would have been cost-effective to know this before the season had started as everyone was already looking
at it at the end of last year,” he told the media.
The officials of the sport recently announced that engine mapping will be banned starting from the European Grand Prix and after that at the British Grand Prix, blown diffusers will also be banned from the sport.
Even though Webber did not talk about the ban on the blown diffusers much, he stated that the ban on engine mapping is not going to be quite effective though. On the other hand, it is believed that the ban on blown diffusers is going to have a major impact
on Red Bull Racing team’s performance.
Webber added that the ban on blown diffusers is not going to improve the “show” in any way and that the audience does not even care much about this rule change.
“I think the majority of fans aren't that bothered, they want to see what they've seen this year - good car races. They have 10-15% knowledge of what is going on behind the scenes, you have the hardcore fans who understand a bit more, but fans want to see
a good car race,” he stated.
The Australian driver however, has not been able to cope up with his teammate Sebastian Vettel who is currently leading the championship with 161 points after winning 5 out of 7 races because of which there are rumours that the team might not keep Webber
for another year.
In 2010 however, Mark gave an outstanding performance as he competed for the title until the grand finale in Abu Dhabi but this year, it has been a completely different story for him.
