Mark Webber believes he has made considerable progress in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he has made some considerable progress in his qualifying pace in the 2012 Formula 1 season despite facing difficulties in few grands prix.
Webber was deemed as one of the most competitive title contenders as he performed with admirable consistency during the first half of the season. Even though, he struggled with his pace in few races, nevertheless, he kept on scoring good points for his team
and came 6th in the end.
The Australian driver could not match the pace of his teammate, Sebastian Vettel who performed incredibly well and successfully won his third world championship title. However, he attained promising results for his team and played a tremendous supporting
role in claiming the constructors’ championship title.
Although, he is not contended with his position in the standings as he believes that he could have achieved more. Nonetheless, he expressed that he is pleased to see improvements in his qualifying pace in this season and will hopefully carry on the same
good form in the coming season to attain better results.
“Difficult to analyse it all really, because sections of it has been the best I've ever had. It depends what you're measured on; championship position is poor, but qualifying stats are the best they've ever been. That's not really important, but it is important
in terms of getting that stuff right, so I've definitely improved in that area.”
In addition, he said that they faced immense difficulties during the opening few races and could not score points with consistency in the middle, even so, they kept on fighting hard and came out successful in the end.
“But I had some really big highlights as well so they're nice to have because the wins were spread out amongst a lot of us this year. It was alright,” the Aussie said.
It will be important to note that the 36-year-old has proven himself as a great team player in his career so far, but he has recently asserted that he is going to fight his own battle in the next season to win the championship title.
