Mark Webber believes he is equally good as Sebastian Vettel – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber believes that he is equally good as his teammate, Sebastian Vettel who has claimed his third successive world championship title in the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Webber has been completely outclassed by Vettel until now. Even though, he is one of the most hardworking and experienced drivers in the sport, but he has not been able to win even a single championship title in his career so far.
Furthermore, he has played the role of a supporting driver in the Milton Keynes based squad and helped his team fellow in attaining competitive results quite a few times. However, he has asserted that he is not going to be supportive anymore and will fight
his own battle in the next season.
In addition, he said that he lacks performance in the qualifying as compared to the three-time world champion who has secured higher grid slots more often.
“Sebastian’s strength is qualifying, and it was 10-11 this year in his favour,” Webber said.
“Two races he had me over one lap on sheer pace. You don’t get anything for that, but the team know that’s also a measure of if you can put it out there over one lap,” he added.
It will be important to note that the Australian driver performed amazingly well during the start of this season and stood amongst the most competent title contenders as he scored points with impressive consistency. Conversely, he could not keep up the level
of consistency during the last few races and failed to match the pace of the veteran German driver.
He secured sixth place finish in the drivers’ championship with 179 points. Besides, he stood ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari and behind McLaren pair of drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.
Red Bull are currently looking forward to start their development process for the next season and are aiming to come up even stronger in the next season in order to defend their championship title.
Let’s see how they compete with their major rivals in the coming year and whether they will be able to achieve their goal or not.
