Mark Webber bewildered by gap between him and Sebastian Vettel – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team driver Mark Webber has recently stated that he is confused and ‘mystified’ by the gap between him and his teammate Sebastian Vettel after the qualifying session for the season opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season that is expected
to take place on March 27, 2011 in Australia.
“I was disappointed obviously with my performance. Seb put in a very good lap, obviously [I'm] disappointed to get bumped off the front row as well,” Webber stated.
He stated that he is going to analyse his own performance in order to perform at his best at the race and hopefully, narrow the gap between him and his teammate in the future.
The Aussie’s lap was over 8 tenths slower than his teammate’s fastest pole position taking lap of the session. McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton scored almost a tenth faster than Mark as well to take the 2nd place on the grid ahead of him.
Webber praised the reigning world champion’s pole position taking lap but was not sure where he lost time during his lap and how the gap got increased so drastically.
“I tried my best. A little bit mystified as to the gap to Seb to be honest, but I'll have to go through it and have a look at where I can improve and go from there,” said Mark.
Nevertheless, the Australian driver thanked his team for providing him and his teammate with a fast and reliable car for the 2011 Formula 1 season and congratulated his team for a successful pole position at his home grand prix.
“Obviously it's not the best day for me but the bar is high so I would have like to have done better today but you still have to reflect on the performance of the team today and what they've done over the winter. It's a great effort,” he added.
He stated that it was a bit frustrating for him in the beginning but is hoping to make some improvements in his performance during the race.
Other than that, the team principal Christian Horner echoed Mark’s words and stated that it was a great ‘team performance’ by Red Bull Racing.
He added that securing the 1st and 3rd position on the grid for the first race of the season is a very good start for the team and praised Sebastian Vettel’s stunning laps during the final session of the qualifying round.
Horner believes that the new regulations will be put to the test for the first time at the Australian Grand Prix this Sunday and it would be interesting to see how the teams cope up with the changes.
