Mark Webber claims decision to stay at Red Bull up to him – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber has claimed that the decision to stay with Red Bull is entirely up to him, but he admits that he has to continue delivering strong results in the remaining half of the 2013 Formula season.
According to the Australian driver, “The ball is pretty firmly in my court, which is nice. I have to of course continue to keep driving well, otherwise then that ball will go out of your court and other people will roll into that seat because they'll probably be more attractive to a team like Red Bull.”
After the end of the second round of the season in Malaysia, rumours suggested that Webber would quit the sport at the end of the year, as he was unhappy with team-mate Sebastian Vettel’s behaviour.
The latter of the two refused to listen to the team orders in Malaysia and overtook his partner, who was also asked to slow down in order to save tyres.
Although everyone in the team thought that Vettel did not deserve to win that event, there was no action taken against the triple world champion and he continued to grow stronger from that point onwards.
However, Webber later revealed that he was not thinking of retiring from the sport and also insisted that he could move on to another team, if he failed to reach an agreement with his current constructors.
The veteran driver went onto say that he was in no hurry to make any decisions and will take proper time before holding talks with any team.
It is believed that Red Bull’s chief Dietrich Mateschitz does not have good relations with Webber, but the latter denied such talks by saying, “The relationship with Dietrich Mateschitz is very good and I'll continue to be in touch with him on where my thinking is at, where my energy levels are, and where my motivation is for still operating at this level.”
At the moment, the 36-year-old driver is fifth in the championship, which is not what his team would want from him. His team-mate, on the other hand, is right on top of the table and has already won three races.
