Mark Webber claims his incident with Timo Glock was a small one – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has recently stated that his incident with Hispania Racing Team’s Timo Glock during the first Friday practice session was a small one.
Both of the teams were trying to make up for most of the lost time of a delayed FP1 session.
“In Free Practice 1, I had a small incident. I thought Glock was letting me through, but he didn't know I was there, so when we got to the apex, our car's touched." Webber finished the day over 0.7s slower than his team-mate Sebastian Vettel, and he admitted
he needed to improve on Saturday ahead of qualifying,” said the Australian driver.
Webber had to stay behind Glock for more than a lap after which he decided to close in and make a move in the final sector of the lap. During this move, the HRT driver turned towards the inside which disrupted the Australian drivers overtake as a result
of which, their cars collided.
This collision cost Webber a front wing and Glock lost his left rear tyre as a result of a puncture putting an end to his session.
Many said it was the RBR driver’s fault but one has to agree with Webber as it was just a misunderstanding and staying behind a slow HRT car for over a lap could prove to be quite frustrating for a championship winning car driver.
“It wasn't too bad. I need to find a bit more pace, but there's a bit of low hanging fruit which we can grab tonight, which will be good for us,” he added.
Nevertheless, the Australian driver finished in 5th place in the timesheets of FP2 and it seems that RBR are looking very strong since Sebastian Vettel topped the timesheets around 8 tenths ahead of the Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso
this Friday for the Singapore Grand Prix.
