Mark Webber concedes 2011 title after 2011 Italian Grand Prix retirement – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he is out of the 2011 title fight after the Italian Grand Prix retirement.
Webber added that he was fighting for his second position in the 2011 drivers’ championship from the start of the 2011 Formula 1 season. In addition, he stated that he does not think he can win the title now, as he has dropped down his position in the title
fight after the Italian race retirement.
The Australian was at the second place before the 2011 Monza race in the drivers’ championship. In the recently held Italian race weekend, Webber retired from the Grand Prix after completing 4 laps due to an accident.
Webber discussed the Monza race and commented, “The Italian Grand Prix was one of those races that remind you how much it sucks to not finish. It's been a while for me, but it's such a frustrating feeling - both for you and for the team after all the effort
that has gone in.”
He went on to mention, “I should have been much more patient with Felipe Massa. The move was certainly on, but I clipped the kerb and we collided. And then I couldn't get the car back to the pits because there was some stuff jammed underneath and I went
straight on into the barriers at Parabolica.”
The RBR driver was not satisfied with his fifth position in the qualifying round at the Monza racetrack. He took part in race with an aim to cover his gap from the top-runner, Sebastian Vettel in the first lap but due to a collision among five drivers at
the first corner of the circuit, he could not do that.
The 35-year-old driver added that it seems impossible for him to win 2011 championship after the Monza race retirement.
After taking part in the 13 rounds of the 2011 season, Webber is at the fourth place behind McLaren’s Jenson Button with 167 points in the drivers’ championship.
Let’s see how Webber performs in the rest of the ongoing season following his retirement in the Italian GP.
