Mark Webber concerned about five different winners in 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has shown concern with the different winners in 2012 Formula 1 season so far and says that it may prove out to be unfavourable for the sport.
There have been five different winners in the first five races in the season until now who ran on entirely different cars’ setups. In the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia, Jenson Button of McLaren took an amazing victory after setting
off from second grid position.
Later, in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, the Spaniard Fernando Alonso of Ferrari claimed his first win of the season on wet track after starting the race from 8th place in the grid.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes took his maiden victory in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China while Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel won the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
Moreover, Pastor Maldonado of Williams became the fifth different winner in the last race held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
The Australian driver said that due to this trend there has been a lack of clear tussle amongst the contenders.
“I don't know if they [fans] will get sick of seeing so many different winners,” Webber is quoted by Fox Sports. “It's nice to have different winners but also we want rivals.”
Besides, he said that he is targeting to perform well in the next race which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco on May 27. Additionally, it will be important to mention that he won the 2010 Monaco Grand Prix and will definitely be hoping to repeat that remarkable
performance in this season.
“It's a very, very challenging circuit mentally. Seventy-eight laps around there is quite taxing on your mind. Physically it's quite straight forward but on the mind it's quite difficult,” he said.
At present, he is standing at fifth place in the drivers’ rankings with 48 points. Furthermore, he is three points ahead of Button and just one point behind Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus. Over and above, he is focusing to perform with consistency in the upcoming
races in order to secure a competitive position in this year’s championship.
