Mark Webber confident after his show in the 2011 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mark Webber is confident for the upcoming races of the 2011 Formula 1 season after his Chinese Grand Prix performance.
After his excellent outing, he is looking for another positive performance, as he considered single success is ‘not enough’ for the 2011 title.
Webber had a disappointing start in the 2011 season, but he made an impressive run in the Chinese GP and finished in third place for the team. Despite of not using the Kinetic Energy Recovery System during the race, he tried his really best to achieve his
success in race.
Due to weighbridge delay and lack of running in final practice, Webber was unable to make it through to second part of qualifying round and started his race at 18th position
on the Shanghai grid. He has plenty of sets of ‘fresh options’ tyres for the race, which is why he managed to complete his third fastest run on the course and came close to overhauling his teammate Sebastian Vettel as well.
The Australian admitted that his initial drive in Melbourne was quite tough and the Malaysia weekend was unlucky for him, as he experienced KERS issues during the race.
Despite of these issues, he took part in Chinese Grand Prix and started his practice with a strong drive. During the final practice, his car again suffered with various KERS issues, and as a result, he dropped down to 15th place. After the practice
session, he informed the team that, he was totally unable to activate his RB7 car’s KERS during his outing.
The team boss Christian Horner commented on Webber’s run and said, “I think it is great for his confidence to get a good result, especially after a great drive. He had a tough ride in qualifying but he kept his head down, did not lose his focus and he has
delivered a great race.”
He also discussed the Pirelli tyres working in race and added, “It worked fantastically for Mark. He nearly did it last week in Malaysia and he came from further back to get on the podium in China. At the beginning of the race he was racing the Lotuses and
the end of the race he was racing the McLarens – he was even overtaken by Kobayashi in the first stint.”
He appreciated Webber’s strategy during the race and said that he drove a very strong race for the team on the three brand new sets of ‘option’ tyres.
He also praised the two-stop strategy of Vettel. He added although Hamilton won the Chinese GP, but still the Red Bull Formula 1 challenger is the best car to beat others, as its pace was fabulous and balanced.
The Turkish Grand Prix will take place on May 8, 2011 at Istanbul Park circuit.
