Mark Webber confirms his stay at Red Bull for the 2011 Formula 1 season
The Australian driver Mark Webber had some issues with his team as he believes that the team is evolving around Sebastian Vettel only and his needs are more important for the team since he is young and has a longer career ahead of him. These developments
came into motion when Red Bull’s team boss clearly stated in an interview that the team is going to build itself around Sebastian Vettel to ensure a reliable and secure future in the sport.
Obviously, Mark Webber was not happy with these developments and it seemed that he might leave the team after this season as he was clearly having some issues with the team. However, Christian Horner ruled out Webber’s comments as he believes that the team
treats both of its drivers equally unlike most of the top teams in the sport. And since Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber are good friends, Sebastian Vettel was shocked to hear these comments from the Aussie.
Sebastian Vettel believes that Mark will do what is best for him and the team and these recent developments would not affect their friendship in anyway. It was quite immature of Mark to give such comments publically about his team; the team that is helping
him in every way to secure the title.
However, surprisingly, Mark recently stated that he has no plans of leaving Red Bull by the end of this season and hopes to continue his career with Red Bull in 2011 despite these recent comments which were obviously quite offensive for his team.
Webber stated that Red Bull is clearly supporting Vettel more than him, technically and personally. There were many rumours as a result that Mark might move tto another team or more likely, retire in 2011 but the Australian cleared his matter and intends
to complete his contract period that is basically scheduled to expire by the end of next year.
“I think that's a pretty big step [to leave the team]. As long as I'm enjoying my driving, and performing reasonably well, which went okay today - as long as I don't forget how to drive in the next few months, then I'll be here,” he told reporters on Friday.
Mark Webber is currently just 11 points behind the championship leader Fernando Alonso who is leading the standings by 231 points. Mark is followed by Lewis Hamilton in 3rd place who is 21 points adrift while Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber’s teammate
is 25 points astray of the championship leader.
Even though Mark Webber gave such revolting comments against his team, he denied the fact that his relationship with the team has been affected in anyway and stated that his comments were not intended in the way that they were portrayed through the media.
He just wanted to point out the flaws his team currently has and wanted the team to consider them.
Well this was definetly not the right way to “point out” your own team’s flaws. He could have told his team personally in private instead of showering it in the media and tainting his team’s image drastically.
“It's okay. Yesterday there were a few comments which I don't think were too much of a surprise to people. It's fine in the team, absolutely fine. I have a very good relationship with the right people to give me as I say technically a great chance to do
a very good job. That's the most important thing,” he added.
The bottom line is that Mark vows to deliver his best and hopefully secure the both drivers and constructors’ titles for his team by the end of the 2011 season.
