Mark Webber considering other options if Red Bull Racing Team declines to renew his contract by the end of this year
Red Bull Racing Team’s Mark Webber has recently stated that in case his team declines a renewal to his contract by the end of this season, he is going to consider other options and hopefully continue his journey in the sport.
“When this championship ends my contract with Red Bull does as well. But I don't think it depends on the results; I want to win for me. We'll see, if the team doesn't want me anymore, I will have to ask myself a question - hang up my helmet or change teams”,
Webber told the media.
Red Bull’s boss, Christian Horner, stated a few weeks earlier that Mark might retire by the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season if the team decides to replace him.
The Aussie’s recent statement, on the other hand, contradicts with Horner’s quite clearly as Webber is hoping to join some other team if he fails to stay at Red Bull in order to achieve his personal ambitions in the sport.
Mark is currently on a year-to-year contract with the team which means that by the end of each year, his contract expires and it is up to the team whether they want to keep him with them for another year or not.
“I'm determined. Last year I fought for the title and I want to do it again. Sebastian is very fast and he now has a good amount of experience, but he's not unbeatable. I prefer not to talk about his weaknesses, but we all have them”, he added.
Webber was unable to defeat his teammate, Sebastian Vettel, at the title deciding grand finale of the 2010 Formula 1 season as Sebastian won the race ahead of the two McLaren drivers on the podium while Mark finished at 8th place and as a result,
failed to score enough points to take the driver standing’s lead.
However, the Australian driver is hoping for better results and aiming for nothing less than the drivers’ title this year.
