Mark Webber crashes out of the Korean Grand Prix
Red Bull driver and current championship leader Mark Webber crashed out of the inaugural race at the Korean Grand Prix which means the championship game is on once again.
Sebastian Vettel took the pole position while his teammate Mark Webber qualified in 2nd place behind him to secure the first row for their team Red Bull. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton in 3rd and 4th place respectively followed the Red Bull
drivers to fill the 2nd row.
Mark Webber threw his title hopes in to turmoil after retiring just 2 laps into the restart. The Australian was in second place in the wet conditions before he ran wide into the slippery wet curb and spun around into the opposite wall and unfortunately taking
out Nico Rosberg with him.
Both of the drivers were forced to retire on the spot with Webber losing his championship lead with just 2 races left in the season. Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso were just 14 points behind him in 2nd place while Lewis Hamilton and Jenson
Button were 28 and 31 points adrift of him respectively.
It seemed that Mark Webber might get a good result after the qualifying session as he was travelling at a very good pace. However, the championship is going to take another U turn as the drivers are once again much closer in terms of points.
With the Brazilian Grand Prix scheduled on November 7th, Red Bull will have to come up with a strategy in order to secure both of their drivers a good place there and maintain their lead in both drivers’ and constructors’ standings.
After evaluating the conditions at the Korean International Circuit, this was bound to happen as most of the drivers stated that this is the most slippery track they have ever drove on and this is the reason why the drivers were struggling to perform up
to their team’s expectations.
However, Mark’s retirement was obviously good news for the remaining four title chasers and the championship will now spice up marginally before heading in to the final 2 races.
