Mark Webber disappointed due to his inconsistency in 2012 F1 season – Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Mark Webber has stated that he is disappointed by his inconsistency shown during the 2012 F1 season that ended last weekend.
“I was in a great position to challenge for the championship after that victory at Silverstone. Unfortunately, the season unravelled a bit for me after that,” Webber wrote in his BBC Sport column. “Ultimately consistency, which is one of the areas that has
been very strong for me in the past, wasn’t there. That was down to a whole raft of things, including a few own goals which we have to improve on next year.”
However, Webber said that he is satisfied with his improved qualifying pace as compared to his teammate Sebastian Vettel’s. Webber told that his pace was much better from what it had been in the 2011 season and he was now more close to the times set by Vettel.
Webber had been trailing Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, who had been in lead at that time, with a difference of forty points ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix. Vettel took the lead of the drivers’ championship soon after.
The driver also spoke in favour of Vettel that many people wanted his rival Alonso to win but he never saw the Ferrari car to be quick enough and that is the team’s job. He said that people can discuss many scenarios but in the end it is Vettel who won and
became the youngest triple champion.
Presently, Webber is in Tasmania, an island in his home country of Australia. The driver is attending his own adventure challenge there which raised money for the Mark Webber Foundation supporting various charities all over Australia.
Webber will also be undergoing a surgery for his leg which he injured during the Tasmania challenge in November, 2008. The surgery is required to remove the remaining pieces of metal that had been inserted for recovery.
The Australian driver has also made it clear that he will not be playing a supporting role to Vettel as the pressure increases on him next year. He said that he drives for himself and is an equal part of the Red Bull team.w
